Stalco’s team of over 40 employees includes project executives and managers, construction superintendents, assistant project managers, and support personnel. Many employees have worked for Stalco for decades, a testimony to the company’s dedication to providing professional development opportunities and ensuring the wellbeing of all personnel and their families.

Company Profile

Stalco Construction, Inc. is a full-service general contractor and construction manager active in New York City and the Greater New York area. Established in 1992, the commercial and institutional builder specializes in construction of office, retail, educational, healthcare, hospitality, governmental, cultural, residential, mixed-use, and industrial facilities.

Building Design & Construction magazine ranks Stalco as the 50th largest construction manager and the 112th largest general contractor in the United States. ENR New York magazine ranked Stalco as the 52nd largest contractor in the NY/NJ/CT Tri-state area. Stalco's personnel include professional engineers, architects, project managers, superintendents, and support staff. The value of the firm's on-going ground-up, interior, and capital improvement projects exceeds $100 million.


The firm is a national member of the U.S. Green Building Council and many of its employees are active in USGBC's New York City and Long Island chapters. Stalco employs LEED-certified project managers and has implemented a company-wide recycling program for waste and demolition debris. Its headquarters building incorporates numerous Green features.

Since the Firm's Inception...

Its leadership and employees have been involved in supporting the local community through responsible corporate citizenship and charity work. The company's principals, Kevin G. Harney and Alan Nahmias, co-founded Contractors For Kids (CFK), a not-for-profit organization supported by nearly 300 Long Island-based construction and real estate organizations. CFK provides assistance to children and their families impacted by health-related crisis.

Founder, CEO and President

Alan Nahmias

Alan Nahmias is the Founder, CEO, and President of Stalco Construction, Inc., which was established in 1992. He manages the firm’s operations, including field operations, construction personnel, and maintaining relationships with clients. Alan’s experience encompasses serving as project executive for commercial, institutional, educational, and transportation construction projects with a total value exceeding $2 billion. Under his leadership, Stalco has grown into a leading New York City, Long Island, and Greater New York area construction organization.


Alan is a co-Founder of Contractors For Kids, a charity established by Stalco Construction to financially support families of children with serious and chronic illnesses. To date, Contractors For Kids has raised more than $3 million for local families in need. Cooley’s Anemia Foundation Recognized Alan as the 2018 Humanitarian of the Year. The Marty Lyons Foundation named him the 2009 Men of the Year.

Principal

Joseph M. Serpe

As Principal, Joseph M. Serpe supervises construction operations of the entire company and oversees all project management teams. He provides executive-level management expertise for the firm’s most challenging assignments, particularly those involving phased construction, large project teams, complex logistics, pre-engineered structures, and LEED certifications. He also assists in training and professional development of Stalco’s project managers and junior personnel.


Joseph joined Stalco as Project Manager in 2008 and was promoted to Vice President in 2012. He became the firm’s Principal in 2021. As Project Executive, he has managed the $35.8 million renovation and expansion of the Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology in Queens, NY; $30-million expansion and renovation program for the Three Village School District in East Setauket, NY; the $15-million, LEED Silver-certified renovation of the landmark Pier A in Manhattan; and the $8.4 million, LEED Platinum-certified, 60,000-square-foot Asphalt Green Battery Park City Community Center in New York City. 


Joseph was recently recognized by Building Design & Construction magazine as one of the 40 Under 40 building industry executives in the nation.

DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION

John Gennawey

John Gennawey serves as Director of Construction at Stalco Construction, bringing a well-rounded background across the construction industry, including roles as Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, and Department Manager. With experience spanning complex public, private and institutional projects, he has been proud to contribute to meaningful spaces — including school facilities and notable projects such as PS 343, Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn College Performing Arts Center, Nomura Bank Headquarters & The Princeton Club.


John is a LEED AP and is passionate about continuous learning, exploring new construction technologies, products, and processes. Equally committed to developing others, he values mentoring those new to the industry and helping them understand the systems, workflows, and standards that lead to project success.


Guided by authenticity and integrity, John believes in always being open and honest with all stakeholders, leading by example, and approaching every build with care — a philosophy embodied by mottos he lives by: “Build like your family will live here” and “Cheaper is more expensive.”


Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his sons, watching and playing sports, woodworking and building projects, and diving into documentaries and leadership audiobooks. He thrives in environments where he can connect with people at every level, from owners and architects to laborers and field teams, and takes pride in fostering positive relationships and strong site culture.


John loves the dynamic nature of construction, the opportunity to mentor others, and the ability to visit job sites and engage across all phases of the building process — always striving to grow, support his team, and build with purpose."
